Foreign tourists visiting Belize are now required to purchase travel insurance.
Beginning February 15, 2022, all foreign tourists entering Belize will be required to obtain Belize Travel Health Insurance, according to the Belize Tourism Board.
Travel insurance can be acquired at the Phillip Golden International Airport upon arrival, however, it is recommended that you do so in advance online or through tour brokers and operators.
This US $18 per person insurance requirement, which covers up to US $50,000 and is valid for 21 days, is in place to assist international visitors with medical and non-medical expenses if they test positive for Covid-19 while in Belize.
Covid-19-related medical expenses, accommodation charges, air evacuation, and pre-existing condition emergency expenses will all be covered under the plan. If visitors are staying in Belize for more than 21 days, they must acquire separate insurance coverage.
Belizean nationals, permanent residents, and travelers with Qualified Retirement Program or Long Stay status, as well as flight crews, are excluded from this obligatory insurance.
- All overseas visitors must book a Gold Standard hotel and submit proof of booking at immigration.
- All tourists over the age of 5 entering Belize must still provide a negative Covid antigen test, or they will be required to test at the airport for a fee of US $50 per person.
